Do Mel Gibson or Dr John Gray know what us women really want,
or where we come from, or what we think? Perhaps they've figured out some of it.
Who has got it sussed is Billy Joel. When he wrote the song
Matter Of Trust,
he was on to something! Check out the lyrics.
Now think of how and where trust fits in to our lives...
Romantic Relationships
If we don't trust the one we're supposed to love, the
relationship is doomed from the beginning. Underlying everything we do or say to our partner is motivated by a
lack of trust. We think they will betray us by playing around behind our backs.
Some partners just make us mistrust them by lying to us, or
boasting about previous conquests, or just making us feel guilty for caring.
Conversely, some partners do not trust us. Do we give them a
reason? A long hard think is in order.
Some love is just a lie of the mind
It's make believe until it's only a matter of time
And some might have learned to adjust
But then it never was a matter of trust*
Friendships
What is it you really like about your best friend? Sense
of humor? Sure that's important, but I'll bet you trust them.
Trust them with your secrets, thoughts, dreams, hates, loves,
everything.
You know a true friend would help you in an emergency, or pick
you up when you're feeling a bit depressed, or give you a good lecture when you've stepped out of line or you're
getting a bit big for your boots!
That's why it hurts so bad when a friend lets you down. It's
a massive breach of trust, and a wide chasm in your life that's not easily filled. And even if you patch things
up, it takes a while for that trust to build again.
Business
In her book EVEolution
- The Eight Truths Of Marketing To Women, futurist and
marketing guru Faith Popcorn warns companies that they'd better shape up if they wanna keep us satisfied!
Women only do business with people
they trust.
Think about the brands you buy. Why do you buy them? Are they
a well-known company? Do they care about the environment (like tuna companies who have dolphin-free policies)?
Do you trust
them?
The Kraft company in Australia had a public relations disaster
on their hands when in 1996 many people contracted salmonella poisoning from their popular peanut butter. Kraft
is a 'trusted brand'. Their company and spin department acted very quickly to help victims and inform the public.
Because we wouldn't expect anything less from a 'trusted' company,
Kraft's decisive action worked. Hardly anyone remembers the incident (other than those taking legal action, of
course!). Trust was quickly restored.
Faith Popcorn says "Trust happens when you're open about
your actions and act with a conscience. Therefore, responsibility is no longer just a good public relations idea.
It's a necessity for doing business."
This can also apply to personal relationships.
Guys, next time you want to deal with a women in love, life
or business, keep the Billy Joel song in the back of your mind before you make your move.
It's always been a matter of trust! That's what women want...well...one of the things..!
