Santa’s belly shakes when he laughs,
"like a bowl full of jelly" – according
to a popular Christmas story. Santa is on to something.
He knows the value of laughter. There’s nothing like
a laugh coming from deep inside you to release your
tension and worries. You don’t even have to have a
reason to laugh. Get everyone out of the house, and
go to your room and shut the door. Lie down. Start
laughing. Be LOUD! Really! Laugh from your belly.
Laugh even though you may have no reason in the world
to laugh. Treat it as therapy for your body and soul,
to lighten the load. See the laughing as a means to
take worry and sadness and fear and whatever and move
it out of its accustomed position. Do you want to
let this stuff go? Laugh it out!
Santa also knows that developing a washboard belly
will only hinder his ability to laugh. He strives
for a Buddha-like figure, with a soft belly that has
the flexibility to shake like a bowl full of jelly,
and also to allow life and emotion to come and go,
without getting barred in a corner by muscle and tendon.
Santa laughs and his belly shakes. The shaking jogs
loose the negative thoughts, feelings and perceptions
that have become stuck in the physical body, and maybe
even turned into pain or physical upset. Santa is
a "jolly old elf" according to the story
– and who hasn’t wished to be a little bit like him?
You don’t have to create a big stomach to shake your
upset away. Just stand, and let your legs shake your
body. Imagine all the physical tension breaking up
and moving out of your body. Then take emotional tangles
and shake them into tiny little pieces that get flushed
away. Then take these heavy thoughts we all carry
around in our heads and shake them into bits that
can’t get reconstructed. Shake yourself empty of all
the tensions, emotions and thoughts that hold you
captive. Enjoy this feeling of freedom. Right now,
at that moment, you are Santa. Happy Holidays!
