Holidays- Anticipation or Anxiety ?
Jennifer A. Walz, L.Ac, RMT

Well, it seems the holiday season is officially upon us once again, Christmas decorations are up in the stores, TV commercials have taken on a different slant.

Many of us look to this season with a mixture of anticipation and dread. Although it is great to see friends and family you may not get to spend much time with during the year, the onslaught of parties and dealing with shopping malls is overwhelming for some people.

I have noticed over the years that my massage therapy practice really slows down over this season, and my friends in the field report the same thing. It seems that during this time of stress, most people are reluctant to take the time to do something that they need to do FOR THEMSELVES because they are so focused on other people.

The result ? In January, they come in totally drained, a few pounds overweight and vowing that it will be different next year.

If I may make a suggestion or two : please don't forgo your normal schedule of exercise and any health maintenance routines you may be in because of holiday obligations. In fact, even if you have never gotten a massage, or taken a yoga class or meditated before, this would be a great time to start!

You'll thank yourself in January ! Best wishes ~ Jennifer
