The Good Doctor

Syd is beginning to think of her physical therapist in a non-professional
way. Joannie is cranky because her sex life with Bert is not ... well, is not. And Fearless, goodness gracious,
is chewing everyone's shoes.
SYD
Syd arrives for her appointment with her PT, John, and sees him finishing up with an attractive young lady patient,
who is upset with him, and he hugs her. After she leaves, he tells Syd about her (is that allowed?): Rebecca is
a dancer who has injured her ankle badly, and she's upset with him because he has told her not to dance for the
time being, including an audition she desperately wants to attend for the local ballet. He has told her he will
not keep helping her if she will not see a doctor. Syd offers to see her.
When Rebecca comes to see Syd at the clinic, she tells him that every orthopedist has cleared her to dance, but
John will not. She then inquires about Syd's relationship with John, telling her John is obviously very impressed
with her and speaks of her often. Syd says their relationship is purely professional - she's his patient. Syd examines
Rebecca's ankle and finds it quite swollen. She wants to take an xray. Rebecca tells her that's not necessary:
she's brought one with her. She tells Syd all she needs is a cortisone shot so she can make it through the audition.
But Syd tells her she needs an oblique view xray, and instructs her to wait just a moment. While Syd tells Iggy
to xray Rebecca, Rebecca slips out.
Syd tracks down Rebecca later, teaching a children's ballet class. She asks her why she ran out on her. Rebecca
tells her she only saw Syd to make John happy, and if Syd is only seeing her to gain points with John, she should
forget it. Syd admits she saw her as a favor to John, but she believes Rebecca has a serious problem with her ankle
and she wants to help her. And, she points out, the xray Rebecca brought along is six months old - not current
enough to be helpful; Rebecca tells her she must have brought the wrong one. She then tells Syd that she knows
how it is for patients of John: they always start out as "just patients", but then it all changes.
Syd tracks down Rebecca's last orthopedist. He tells her Rebecca walked out on him, too, when he wouldn't tell
her what she wanted to hear. He says an MRI revealed complete disruption of ligaments, and that surgery was necessary.
Syd goes to see Rebecca again, and notices that Rebecca is wincing while dancing along with her students. Syd
compliments her on her students' dancing, and tells her they clearly love her. She also tells Rebecca she has spoken
with the orthopedist. Rebecca says she knows all about her problem, but she has a friend who will get her some
cortisone and that's all she wants.
Syd tells her she understands what it's like to have a career for which you have to work so hard and so long,
but she is a great ballet teacher and that's a wonderful career, too. Rebecca replies that the students only admire
her because they think she'll be a great ballerina with the ballet someday. She accuses Syd of wanting to be John's
star patient, and tells her she should know all about John. She claims that he spent the night with her the previous
night, and he left behind his wallet, which she offers to Syd as proof.
John comes to Syd and tells her he has an update for her: he went to her house last night, and she was very emotional.
Syd tells him what Rebecca is saying about him. He says some patients get a little starry-eyed over their doctors,
and she must know that herself. Syd asks if he's missing anything, and pulls out his wallet. She says his ethics
are none of her concern, but she's angry that he lied to her.
Syd hunts down Rebecca again, this time backstage before her big audition. She is about to inject herself with
the cortisone her friend gave her. Syd says she figures if she can't stop her, she can at least do the injection
herself to make sure it's done properly. Rebecca admits to her that she made up that stuff about John to get Syd
off her back, and even stole his wallet. As Syd gets ready to administer the cortisone, she tells Rebecca she should
know that she'll need more and more cortisone with time, and the other ligaments and tendons will suffer from compensating
for her ankle. John walks in and comes over to them, completing Syd's list of the side effects. He adds that she'll
eventually need an ankle fusion, and perhaps then ankle replacement or muscle reconstruction. Then she'll have
arthritis... The ballet assistant opens the door and tells Rebecca they're ready for her, but she tells them she
will not be dancing.
Syd later walks with John by the water, and apologizes for believing Rebecca. She admits she may have feelings
for him which are beyond professional. He tells her he has never acted unprofessionally, but tells her he was tempted
to.... with Syd, not with Rebecca. They realize there's only another week of therapy left, and then they won't
be doctor/patient anymore...
JOANNIE
Joannie and Bert are having problems in the physical intimacy department. Bert goes to Syd and asks if she can
prescribe Viagra for him. Syd explains that he would have to be her patient, and asks if he is comfortable with
that. He is.
Bert goes by the Barkery and tells asks Joannie on a hot date. He apologizes for the little problem before, but
thinks he was just too tired. He'll get some rest. She enthusiastically accepts his invitation. At Bert's she finds
his bottle of Viagra in the bathroom. She returns home very angry, and demands to know why Syd didn't tell her
Bert had come to her. Syd told her he only became her patient the day before, and she cannot reveal that information.
Joannie wishes she'd act like a sister instead of a doctor, and mentions in addition that the pills didn't help.
Syd goes up to talk to Joannie, and tells her maybe she can help her. She can't tell her what Bert said, but she
can listen to Joannie's side and try to help. Joannie is relieved. Syd asks if Bert seems to have any pain, and
at first Joannie thinks he doesn't, but then recalls that he has had some pain... ever since a recent fall. Syd
thinks this is the answer, and tells Joannie to get Bert to come see her again.
Bert visits Syd and tells her that Joannie thinks maybe his recent fall is the problem. Syd asks where he hit,
and based on the location thinks he his straddle injury has crushed an artery. She thinks he might need microsurgery,
and refers him to a Urologist she knows.
ROBBIE
Andie's attorney comes to see Robbie at the bar and asks if he can help with some information. Robbie refuses
to, and tells him Andie is a psycho. (Andie is the game-show producer who tried to get Robbie to participate in
a rigged game and share the winnings with her, and when Robbie didn't go through with it, burned down the game
show set and tried to frame Robbie for it.) The attorney informs him he is subpoenaed.
Robbie goes down to the jail and talks to Andie. He doesn't want to help her, he tells her, and asks why she's
not out on bail. She gives him a sob story about how no one she knows will see her, and she hasn't the courage
to tell her parents because they'd be crushed. As angry as Robbie is with her, he feels sorry for her (chump) and
offers to call her father for her.
Back home, Robbie calls Andie's father and tells him Andie is going away for awhile on a business trip. The father
begins sobbing on the other end of the phone, deeply disappointed that Andie will miss his 65th birthday party.
Robbie tells him she'll make it to the party.
Back at the bar, a co-worker comments to Robbie that a patron has left behind his credit card. Lo and behold,
it's Andie's attorney's card. Robbie offers to take it to him. Instead, he uses it to post Andie's bail (fool).
He then slips the card back to the unsuspecting attorney, as they accompany Andie out of her cell.
JIM AND FEARLESS
Fearless is chewing up everyone's shoes, and Robbie tells Jim he needs some training. Jim calls in a specialist:
a Canine Motivation Expert. Heather asks if that's really what Fearless needs, but Jim assures her it will be fine.
The trainer shows up, and she is a formidable woman. Turns out she's a Navy SEAL. She sternly commands Fearless
to do various exercises. She tells Jim that Fearless is competing with him for dominance, because Jim is the family's
leader. She'll break his habit.
Later, Jim cannot find Fearless, and Heather informs him that Fearless is now "Fearful" and is hiding.
Heather tells Jim that he is the family's top dog, and Fearless looks to him for leadership. Jim is moved by Heather's
insightfulness, as always, and fires the trainer.
