Chapter 2

The Crane dance was in full swing. All the guests started arriving. The men were dressed in dashing black suits with black masks covering their eyes and all of the ladies were dressed in beautiful century gowns holding their delicate feather masks on a long poles.

Sheridan wondered around the dance watching all of the happy couples sway in each others arms. She didn’t want to be at this dance and she kept the mask pasted to her face so no one would recognize her.

Unfortunately, Alistar Crane saw his stunning daughter and he caught her attention.

“Sheridan, darling. Could you come with me a second?” Alistar said holding out his hand.

Sheridan reluctantly placed her hand in his and followed him over to a young handsome man standing with Ivy and Julian.

“Sheridan I would like you to meet Christian Hotchkiss.” Julian said pushing Christian gently forward.

“It’s an honor to meet you.” Christian said gently picking up Sheridan’s hand and placing a small kiss upon it.

“Nice to meet you.” Sheridan said simply trying to find a way to get away.

The orchestra began to play a soft ballad.

“Why don’t you and Christian dance?” Ivy said pushing the two to the dance floor.

Christian lead her to the middle of the floor and they started to waltz catching the attention of most of the party.

Sheridan smiled politely as he spun her around the ballroom.

‘Please God give me something to get me through this night.’ she thought in the back of her mind.

Luis and Hank dressed to a “T” walked into the gigantic ballroom. Luis was in awe at the place. His family mansion was of equal size but that evening it looked larger than life.

Hank wrapped his arm around the tiny waist of Beth Wallace and gestured towards Luis.

“Their are a lot of broads here to look at Luis! Now find one to dance with and meet us on the dance floor!” Hank said steering Beth towards the ballroom.

Luis walked over to the large buffet and grabbed himself a glass of champaign. He turned around and looked at the dancing couples.

That is when he saw her.

She was standing in a corner modestly sipping from a champaign flute. She looked like an angel in her beautiful white gown and her white feather mask.

He stepped closer to get a better look at her. She slowly brought her mask away from her face and at that moment he fell hard for the most beautiful creature he ever laid his eyes on.

Sheridan looked over across the room at the handsome man that wouldn’t take his eyes off of her.

She started to slowly walk across the dance floor closing in the distance between them. Her heart caught in her throat as he became just inches from her face.

She stared into his dark eyes that just seemed to hold so much passion and love.

He took her hand and placed a butterfly kiss on her fingers. She shivered from his touch. Never had a man made her feel this way before.

He slowly lead her to the middle of the dance floor and he gently took her in his arms.

They began to dance beautifully around the floor.
