“I’ll never love again!” Gwen Hotchkiss kept thinking as
she slowly walked to the Country Club early on that Monday morning. She thought maybe getting out of the mansion
and to a familiar place would help her clear her thoughts.
Gwen sat at her table and ordered her iced cappuccino and
opened that days newspaper and her eyes welled up at the two headings stories of the day.
“Sheridan Crane is alive! FBI to be involved in cover up!”
“Ethan Crane to be wed to Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald”
Gwen let a small tear drop down her cheek but quickly wiped
it away. She was more than relieved that her best friend was alive and well but she still wasn’t ready to except
The initial shock of the announcement had worn away from
her. Now Gwen was concentrating on starting all over again but she just keeps running into her past.
“Enough of this!” Gwen thought and she stood up and left
the club and walked to the wharf to get some fresh air.
Hank Bennett walked out of the courtroom and breathed a
sigh of relief.
“It’s finally over. Roger and Pierre are behind bars, Sheridan
is alive and safe, and Luis is no longer in pain.” Hank thought.
Luis and Sheridan walked to Hank hand in hand.
“Listen buddy” replied Luis, “I don’t know if I can ever
repay you for saving Sheridan and bringing her back to me.”
“It’s cool buddy what are friends for?’ said Hank.
“I know but always know that I owe ya one!”
“Don’t worry I will!” laughed Hank.
Sheridan kissed Hank on the cheek and said “Thank you so
much for giving me back my life. You’ll always be a good friend of mine.”
Hank bid his farewell to Luis and Sheridan knowing that
they wanted to have their own private reunion.
He couldn’t help wondering to himself....”What now?”
He had a permanent job working for the FBI and the drug
cartel was no longer a threat but he didn’t have a last call of the day. He couldn’t help but think that he didn’t
have someone to come home too.
Shaking away the nagging feeling he decided to take a walk
to the wharf to clear his head.
Gwen stared into the water as she walked along the wharf.
It was a very calm day and she felt a little better.
Hank walked to the wharf and watched all of the couples
walking hand in hand. He smiled and kept thinking to himself “Someday...”
But his thought was interrupted when he bumped right into
a beautiful woman. Their heads collided and they became eye to eye.
They just stood there and stared into each others eyes
but that was just for a moment.
“Hank!! Oh my god I’m so sorry!!” Gwen apologized.
“It’s all right Gwen. What are you doing out here?”
“Um nothing just taking a walk.”
“Listen I’m sorry about Ethan....”
“It’s all right.” Gwen cut him off. “I’ll be fine.”
“I’m sorry to have brought up something painful.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Gwen smiled thinking how much of
a gentlemen Hank was.
“Listen..” Gwen started, “Would you like to get together
for a cup of coffee sometime?”
“I would love too.” said Hank.
“The Book Cafe tomorrow around 1 or so?”
“Sure see ya then!” said Hank.
“Ok bye.” said Gwen.
They both walked away feeling some sort of different feeling
that was something they couldn’t explain.
Neither of them knew that their destiny was starting to
