Hank timidly walked into the room. His eyes immediately
landed on the small creature in the bed, and his heart broke. The nervousness left him and he rushed over to
her bedside, anxious to be as close to her as possible. He leaned over and stroked her hair, gently tucking it
behind her hair.
"Oh Gwen." He sighed, a small tear escaping his eye. "I’m so sorry. I never wanted this to happen.
Please fight. Come back. If you come back and don’t wanna be with me, I’ll understand, but please come back."
He voice broke and he paused for a second.
"Gwen, I’m sorry that my past got you hurt. I shouldn’t have even got involved with you because of it.
You don’t deserve this. You should be happy, working on cases, living your life. Not fighting for it in a hospital
"Gwen, earlier tonight you said you loved me. I was to stunned to answer, but, I, I love you too. God,
I love everything about you. The way you slyly smile when you’re up to something, or the way your face lights
up when you’re happy. I love your kind heart, and your determination. I love the way that I feel when I’m around
you, and feel like I could die when I’m not.
"You do this to me Gwen. I’ve never experienced these feelings with anyone else. Please come back, and
forgive me. My life will be hell without you, but it wouldn’t be worth living if you’re not." Hank leaned
over and kissed her forehead. He looked down at her fragile face, and shook his head.
Sighing he slipped back down into the chair next to her bed. He struggled to get comfortable, and finally managed
to receive a small bit of comfort, before slipping off into the darkness.
Adriana glanced at her watch. ‘Only 12:30." She thought with a sigh. She began walking back to the waiting
room, and bumped into Luis and Sheridan, who appeared to be leaving.
"What’s going on?" She asked.
"Hank’s gonna be in there all night. There’s really not much else to do. We’re coming back in the morning,
after we get some sleep. Go home and do the same." Luis suggested.
"But what if she wakes up?" Adriana questioned.
"Hank’ll be there. Go get your coat and we’ll walk with you to your car." Sheridan commented.
Adriana shrugged and complied with their suggestion. She’d visited Gwen, and there really wasn’t much else she
could do. Surely Hank would call if she woke up, and Justin would be there at four, so he could give her updates.
Adriana rejoined Luis and Sheridan and walked out to her car. She said good-bye to the couple and drove off.
Hank slept soundly, well, as soundly as he could in the uncomfortable hospital chair. A nurse entered the room
to check vitals and sighed when she saw the man sleeping next to the woman’s bed.
"There’s a devote man." She quietly said to herself. She shook her head in sadness and began to read
the machines. A smile appeared on the old woman’s face. ‘This is great news.’ she thought. Quickly she hurried
off to get Doctor Sweetman.
When she reappeared the doctor was with her. The moved over to the machines and read the papers they printed
out and the monitors.
"You were right Nancy. This is good news. She’s getting stronger by the hour. She most definitely will
wake up tonight." Doctor Sweetman replied. Nancy nodded her head and looked at the woman and the man.
"Should we wake the man and tell him?" Nancy asked.
"No. If I’m right, Gwen here can wake him." Doctor Sweetman replied. "C’mon, let’s leave them
be." Doctor Sweetman walked out the door, and Nancy followed, stopping to take a quick look back at the
couple. She sighed, and hoped they’d be happy soon.
"Hey Stephanie." Justin greeted his fellow doctor as he entered the lounge.
"Hey Justin. How’s Adriana doing, she was here earlier for my patient." Doctor Stephanie Sweetman
"She’s asleep now. She was really worried, wants me to call her if anything happens." Justin answered,
putting on his lab coat.
"Well, she should wake up tonight. Her vitals are really great." Doctor Sweetman replied.
"That’s wonderful. Ria will be so happy to hear that." Justin smiled.
"Yes, that one man, Hank something or another, is in there right now." Doctor Sweetman replied.
"Yeah, Adriana told me he saved her life. But her parents blamed both of them for this happening. When
she told me that I couldda strangled them." Justin bitterly replied.
"They’re rich, so they think they can do what they want. You know what one of the nurses told me? She said
when they came in the man was screaming and asking ‘what was taking so long’ and ‘is the best in there’. Some
people." Doctor Sweetman replied.
"The nerve! You’re the master at gunshot wounds. You could almost take care of one wit your eyes closed!"
"Don’t trip about it. I’m not. I did my best, that’s all-" Doctor Sweetman was cut off by the intercom
paging Doctor Bates.
"Sorry Steph, it was great talking to ya, but I gotta go. I’ll see ya later." Justin said, putting
on his stethoscope and walking towards the door.
"I’ll contact you if I know anything." Doctor Sweetman smiled. Justin smiled back at her and left
the room, off to save someone’s life in the emergency room.
Hank began to stir. When his eyes popped open he stretched out and looked at his watch. 4:36. ‘Great, I’ve probably
got the worst kink in my neck now.’ He thought.
He felt a funny sensation, as if someone was staring at him, and he looked up, into the most beautiful green eyes
he had ever seen.
