Don’t Think I’m Not
by Lar

Chapter 10

Hank, Gwen, Luis and Sheridan, who were hand-in-hand, walked along the calm ocean. Small rollers lightly crashed against the shore, casting a smooth, rhythmic song. They had been walking for about five minutes, no one speaking a word. There was no need, each was lost in their own thoughts, although they varied from one another’s. Well, almost.

‘So, here we are, walking along the beach, a very romantic setting, and nothing’s happened. Ah, quit it Gwen, maybe his feelings have changed. But still, I wonder what he’s thinking. He’s probably watching Luis and Sheridan, thinking about them.’ Gwen thought as she and Hank walked side-by-side, behind Luis and Sheridan.

‘Oh God, do I make a move? I mean, she just got over Ethan. Is it right? And what about Luis and Sheridan? Sure they’re off in their own world, but what if they see? Damn, she’s so pretty. Why does she have to be so beautiful?’ Hank groaned inwardly, and stole a glance at Gwen. She was smiling as they slowly walked, looking peaceful, at easy, and unbelievably beautiful. The moonlight cast a glow around her, she looked like a vision, an angle.

"What’s going on back there?" Sheridan quietly whispered to Luis, who was glued to her left side.

"I don’t know. You said she likes him, and I can tell he likes her." Luis whispered back.

"Maybe they’re nervous." Sheridan reasoned.

"Could be. Maybe we should give them some private time." Luis smirked. "I know I could use some."

"Oh yeah? Come and get it!" Sheridan yelled, taking off down the shore. Luis ran after her at full force, but never allowing himself to catch her. Once they were a good ways down the beach, to where Hank and Gwen looked like shadows, they slowed down, and blissfully hooked back together.

"What’s that all about?" Gwen asked in shock as their companions sprinted down the beach.

"Oh, Luis probably suggested something!" Hank said in a mixture of shock and anger. ‘Of course he just left us all alone.’

"Oh. I get it." Gwen giggled.

"Are you cold?" Hank asked, noticing that she was wearing a skirt, and not a long coat.

"Um, a little." She admitted.

"Really, it’s winter." Hank smiled, taking off his jacket and giving it to her.

"Oh, no, you need your coat, I’ll be fine." Gwen stated, pushing the coat back towards him.

"C’mon, really, I’ll be okay." Hank argued.

"No." Gwen said firmly.

"Fine then, let’s go back to the car. They’ll be fine without us, and we can talk to them tomorrow." Hank stated, turning around. Gwen let her jaw drop but quickly regained her composer and caught up with him. They walked back to the car in silence. The trip home was just as solemn, for the mood was broken. The beach hadn’t done to them what Luis and Sheridan thought, and both Gwen and Hank felt a dread come over them. ‘Will it ever happen?’ They each questioned themselves. They went to bed that night, wondering if what they were feeling was just hopefulness.

"Damn Luis! What went wrong?" Sheridan whined as they made their way back to her car.

"I don’t know. Maybe it wasn’t the right mood. Who knows? Maybe Hank got nervous." Luis suggested helping her into her seat.

"Hank, nervous?" Sheridan skeptically said.

"Stranger things have happened." Luis smiled, getting in the driver’s seat. He turned the ignition, and pulled out of the parking lot.

"What are we gonna do? How are we gonna get them together?" Sheridan asked.

"Maybe it’s best if we let them handle it. If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen." Luis sighed.

"Oh God." Sheridan rolled her eyes.

"What?" Luis asked, furrowing his brow.

"You’re turning into Theresa. ‘If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen’. Next thing I know you’ll say fate a bunch of times." Sheridan laughed at the fearful expression that covered his face.

"If that happens, take my revolver and shoot me." Luis stated. Sheridan laughed and leaned over to gently kiss his cheek.

"Don’t worry, you’ve got a long way to go before you become her." Sheridan sweetly said.

"Okay babe. If you say so." Luis said, flashing his killer smile.

"You’d better watch it officer, or that Mandy may show up!" Sheridan laughed.
