Theresa started to sob. Ethan didn't
understand what she was telling him. CHUCK was the love of her life, not him. He wrapped his arms around her to
soothe her, but she violently yanked away from him, her eyes blazing.
"Are you happy now, Ethan? Your fiancée was right about me the whole time. You can go home to her and
have a good laugh!"
"What?" Ethan murmured, not fully realizing what she was telling him.
"I love you, Ethan! I love you, and now you know."
Theresa collapsed to her knees, spent. Ethan just stood there, stunned. It was finally starting to sink in.
That was the only thing Ethan could think of to say. Theresa, who was now sitting on the top step of the porch,
looked up at him, her tears still
coursing down her face.
Ethan sat down beside her and looked into her eyes.
Theresa took a deep breath and began.
"Ethan, I’ve loved you forever. I’ve loved you since I can remember. At first, it was just me, having a silly
schoolgirl crush on you. Then, I realized that
it was more than that. I realized that when you were happy, I was happy. When you were sad, I was sad. I realized
that our difference in social status didn’t
matter. You became a part of me. It was fate, Ethan. We were meant to be together."
Ethan wasn’t fully processing what she was saying.
"Chuck never existed, Ethan. Well, he does, but he was not the love of my life. Whenever I spoke of Chuck,
I was talking about you. Whenever I told you how much I loved Chuck, how we were meant to be together, I was talking
Ethan looked down at his hands. He was miserable.
Every time Theresa had been sad about Chuck, she had really been upset about him.
"Wow. Gwen was right the whole time."
Ethan could have shot himself for saying that. Here Theresa was spilling her heart to him, and that was the most
brilliant thing he could think of to say.
Theresa nodded slowly.
"Yes she was. Ethan, I am so sorry for lying to you all of this time. All I ever wanted was for you to be
happy. That’s why I can’t go to the wedding. I guess Gwen makes you happy. But Ethan, please think about this -
does Gwen live and breathe for you? Do you for her? Does Gwen feel what you feel? When she thinks of you, does
her heart race, or does yours when you think of her? Because that’s love, Ethan. That's passion. That’s what I
feel for you. You are a part of me. You always have been, before I ever knew you, and you always will be.
"I’ve always thought that fate would bring us together. You said that you believe in fate, Ethan. Well you
obviously don't, because you would have realized a long time ago that we are meant to be. Ethan, what is it that
you want? Listen to your heart. What is it telling you?"
Ethan stared into her eyes. They were so big, so luminous. Staring into them was like staring into Theresa’s soul.
He reached over and slid his hand around the back of her neck. Nobody had ever made him feel so loved, so wanted
before. Theresa actually felt this way about him? It was all starting to make sense though.
What she was saying.. it was so true. All his heart wanted at that moment was to stop her crying, to make her smile.
He leaned into her, lightly touching his lips to hers, tentatively. She responded by increasing the pressure, then
pulled away slightly, moving her lips down his cheek.
Ethan dropped his head back, loving the way her lips felt as they traced along his collarbone. Never had anything
felt so right.
He cupped her face between his hands and pulled her lips to his. He captured hers, teasing at first, then the kiss
deepened. The pure bliss Ethan remembered from the other kisses was back, but intensified.
Theresa loved him. That gave kissing her a whole new meaning.
Theresa caught his lips between hers and a slight moan escaped from deep within her. She ran her hands along his
back, marveling in the beauty of kissing him.
Suddenly, a car drove by. Ethan pulled away, breathless. What was going on? It was like there was a connection
with Theresa, one that grew stronger each
time they were together.
Theresa stared into his eyes, penetrating his body with her gaze. All Ethan wanted to do was to take her in his
arms again, to feel her against him. That was where she belonged.
He leaned in to kiss her again. He pulled her to him.
They could have kissed for minutes. Or for hours. They were just lost in the newness of one another. They were
where they belonged, where fate wanted them to be, even though Ethan was too blind to see it.
Someone was clearing their throat. Theresa gasped as she pulled away. Staring down at them was Sheridan, a little
smile on her face.
"Care to explain.."
Ethan’s eyes darted from Theresa to Sheridan and back. This was one scenario he wasn’t sure he could handle.
"I..I have to go," he said breathlessly, jumping up. He jogged off. Sheridan looked at Theresa worriedly,
then ran off after him.
Theresa felt more lost than she ever had before. All she knew was that the quicker she got out of Harmony, the
better. Her being in Harmony was just going to make Ethan even more unhappy.
She went upstairs to pack, and to begin her new life without Ethan Crane.
Good bye Ethan. I love you.
