Pep Talk

Imagine that. A pep talk from someone other than your mom or your labor coach.

Yes, it is a pep talk. Okay, as all of you who have followed my journals know, it's been a wild ride for me as far as this freelance thingy goes.

I started back in November last year. Primarily just giving my stuff away, for exposure. Until someone offered me $50 for a column. Imagine! $50. I was staggered that anyone would pay me a dime, and thus a monster was born.

All I really wanted was a few hundred dollars a month. Just something to help out with groceries and whatnots.

I applied for more jobs and yet more jobs. Oddly enough, I got more offers than I knew what to do with.

In the last two months I have netted a gig that pays me $30 an hour. Sounds like a bunch, huh? Well, hold on to your hats.

Also, in the past two months, I have made roughly $14,000. Not counting my day job.

Where does the pep talk come into play, you ask? Well, for those of you who love to write, but think you may not have what it takes, I am telling you now that you need to do it.

It's very easy. Go to your Internet search engine and type in "freelance jobs" and then search. There is nothing at all difficult about that. I exert more energy curling my hair each day. Okay, that was a lie. I don't curl my hair, but it does take a considerable amount of time to get it into a ponytail.

Another recommendation is www.inkspot.com. Check their classified and job posting area. Be sure before you send off a letter that you have a sample of your work to enclose and tell them a little something about yourself. Join a writer's group. There are a million of them online, always ready to share advice and information.

Don't think you can't do it. Find your strength and make it work for you. Mine was humor, and I use it in almost everything I write. Also, if someone asks you to do something for them, to test you out, so to speak, don't tell them you'll have it in a day or so. Do it right then and get it back. It shows your commitment.

Anyway, I'm not sure how many of you will be interested. Let's just close it off with these, final words.

$14,000!!!!!

Think about it and then do it.

See you tomorrow;
Maji
