The Fan Fic Site
Part 3
by Bradygirl
Mike woke with a start. What time was it? The bedside clock read 8:30.
He didn't have to be at work until ten. Maybe now was a better time to call Hope on the Empress Express. He had
tried to contact her last night but the operator informed him that he could only get through when the train was
stopped at a station. The next station stop was right about now. He grabbed the phone and dialed.
"Come on, Hope. Answer," mumbled Mike as he sat on the edge of his bed.
DiVA's message had been so vivid, so detailed, that he couldn't not take action. Hope was his cousin. He loved
her and he didn't want a maniac like Stefano DiMera to hurt her. He only wished Bo was around. Mike knew that Bo
would be even more concerned about this than he.
According to DiVA, Bo was in the Bayou with Billie and a woman named Greta. She wouldn't tell him any more than
that, but he could tell from the way she worded her email that Greta was a pretty important woman. Someone he should
get to know.
The phone rang for what seemed an eternity when someone finally picked up.
"Hello?" said a somewhat distraught European sounding voice.
"May I speak to Hop... I mean, Princess Gina please?"
Oh, that had almost been a costly slip of the tongue. If DiVA hadn't told him that Hope was masquerading as Princess
Gina aboard the Empress Express, he might have blown her cover and any hope of her discovering her missing years.
He sighed into the receiver.
"She's right here, dear. Hold on." Lily Favasham crawled over to the person she knew as Princess Gina.
Mike's concern grew as he realized the woman who answered sounded like she was in pure anguish. Mike couldn't help
but notice the painful inflection in her voice.
"Gina, darling, I think it's that architect friend of yours," said Lily coughing slightly and leaning
back against a fallen chair.
Hope took the cordless phone from her and then steadied Lily as her coughs became louder. She could tell that Lily
was still woozy from the train accident. Hope righted the chair and helped her friend into it. Then she remembered
the phone in her hand.
"John?" she asked. "John? Is that you?"
"No, Hope, it's Mike. Is everything okay? That woman who answered the phone sounded like she needed a doctor."
Mike quickly switched from concerned-cousin-mode into doctor-mode.
"I think she's all right," Hope said over the cries of the other passengers finally waking up. "We're
all just a little banged up."
"Did the train derail? I was calling to warn you that it might." Mike switched the receiver to his other
ear.
"How did you know?" asked Hope in shock.
"That's not important right now. What is important is that I think you're in danger."
"Are you taking cues from Celeste now, Mike?" Hope laughed and it felt good to release some of the tension
in her body.
"No, I have a few friends who have "the gift," sort of like Celeste, and they warned me that you
were in danger. I think you should come home."
"No, way, Mike. I am so close to solving the mystery of my past that I can almost taste it."
"Just promise me something, Hope," said Mike with genuine concern.
"What's that?"
"Stay safe. And for God sakes, don't get in the way of Stefano."
Mike spent the next few hours worried about his cousin. He was so concerned that he couldn't focus on his work
or on the web sites he'd recently learned about. Right before leaving last night, he'd discovered a few sites dedicated
to Austin and Carrie. He hoped Carrie hadn't stumbled across any of those sites.
Even though he told Carrie to stay with Austin, he really knew that ultimately he and Carrie belonged together.
He hoped Bradygirl was right when she said that Austin and Carrie's marriage was invalid. This image alone gave
him hope
He remembered back to the day of Austin and Carrie's wedding. His uncle Mickey had pointed out that Austin and
Carrie's marriage certificate was still good for one more day. At the time, he thought his uncle's comment to be
strange, but now he thought that maybe his Uncle Mickey was wrong.
That day, a year ago, had been the longest of his life. Not only had Carrie married Austin, but Austin had discovered
Will wasn't really his son. He felt for Austin, but MicheleB truly believed Austin really was Will's father. Now
that Will was in the hospital in a coma, maybe he could figure out if MB's speculation was true. And if it was,
what did that mean for the future of Austin and Carrie?
After rounds he finally made it back to his office around noon. Carrie's door was shut and a do not disturb sign
hung on the door knob. He wondered what she was doing that was so important. There were no pressing PR events that
he knew about, and she had dealt with the Lucas, Will, Sami situation yesterday.
He cautiously opened the door to find her laying with her head on the desk wearing the same clothes from yesterday.
All around her were print-outs from various fan fics. The Trouble With Love, Whispering Winds, The Least Likely
Suspect, If I Were Sally, The Watcher... not to mention print outs of emails from Bradygirl, Nancy and MN Crusader.
The email from Nancy caught his eye. She was telling Carrie not to loose faith that Mike really loved her and that
Erika was only a concerned friend. How did Carrie know about Erika? And for that matter, how did Carrie know about
Nancy? This was getting ridiculous. He could tell that Carrie was on the verge of becoming fan fic addicted.
On her monitor were a few paragraphs of a story called My Love by Carrie Reed. They were right. The angels. The
were all right. Carrie really did love him. And it said so right there on her computer screen. His heart soared...
then it fell again when he saw Carrie's question to MN Crusader.
"Should I work it out with Austin?" MN Crusader had left Carrie's previous message to her beneath the
message she'd written. Carrie was still confused, torn between both of them. There was only one thing to do. He
had to prove MB's theory. He had to prove that Austin was Will's father, and that Austin was truly in love with
Sami and not Carrie. Then she could be his, his forever.
***********
DiVA turned on the satellite feed so she could watch her morning's soap episode when her son came into the room.
"Hey, mom, I thought today was going to be a repeat of yesterday's show," said her son.
He was right. Days was now two days behind due to all this presidential nonsense. But before she could turn her
feed off, she noticed something. It wasn't the same as yesterday. Mike was in Will's room taking a blood sample.
Austin was asleep in a nearby chair and Mike took a sample from him as well.
"What are you doing?" DiVA screamed at the tv set. "That's not what's suppose to happen." Oh
my God, she thought. Mike is taking things into his own hands. She knew she shouldn't have been telling him so
much of the future.
Quickly she booted up her computer and sent an email on angel wings to a few of her angelic friends.
