TWISTED--A Love Story

Part 4

"I feel so good today,
It's hard to stay away.
A hunter and his prey.
Today will be the day."

"I've never been to a frat party before!" Jamie Caldwell touched up her lipstick and fluffed up her bright auburn curls. "I hope I look grown-up enough." She turned to Sami, who was driving down Shields Avenue. "Do I look grown-up enough?"

Sami gave her friend a quick glance and said, "You look fine. And that lipstick looks really good on you. It doesn't clash with your hair."

"I swear, Sami, when you're a redhead, it's hard to find clothes and makeup that don't clash with your hair or your skin. You're so lucky that you've got blonde hair and blue eyes. You can wear really nice clothes."

"Jami, you don't have a thing in your closet that isn't nice. You can put together thrift store clothes and look good."

"You're just saying that to make me feel better."

"No, I'm serious. Next to Carrie, you're the best dresser that I know." Sami gave her friend a knowing smile. "Trust me on this one. With your awesome outfit and gorgeous face, you'll have those older frat boys eating out of your hand."

"You should be so lucky. Alan seems like a sweetheart." Jamie reached over to turn the radio down. "I'm so jealous of you. Sixteen years old, and you're dating a college guy! What's your secret?"

"I don't know. Alan went out with Carrie after she broke up with Austin, and we just starting hanging out with each other when Carrie and Austin got back together. I guess he found me charming."

"That's no surprise. Everyone at school thinks you have an awesome personality."

"Oh, come on!" Sami chided. "I'm not that awesome."
"Don't be so modest!" laughed Jamie. "You're more popular than you think!"

"Jamie, don't say that! You'll give me a big head!"

Sami was familiar with the CSU campus, so she drove through it without any problems. She followed the directions that Alan had written out for her, right to the letter. In moments, she pulled her car into a parking spot next to a large brick house with Greek symbols on it.

"Phy Sig," announced Sami. "I think we're early."

The two girls got out of the car and smoothed out their clothes. The girls had dressed very carefully, but they'd fixed their hair and makeup in different ways. Sami had on a tight black top that dipped low in the back, as well as matching jeans and black suede boots. She'd decided to wear her hair loose and flowing, and hap opted for a flick of mascara and a dab of her favorite lip gloss.

Jamie, on the other hand, had slipped on a teal green knit dress and black belt. Her face was painted like she was planning to do a cover shoot for a popular magazine, and her hair was teased into a long, voluminous mane of auburn curls. It was easy to see who was dressed for comfort, and who was dressed for flirtation.

Sami knocked on the front door. A moment later, Alan answered. "Hi, girls!"

"Hi!" joked Sami. "We heard there was a party here, and we were wondering if we could crash it."

"Party's just started. Come in!" Alan ushered the girls into the frat. It was spacious and noisy. A tub of ice, with assorted beverages (most of them alcoholic), sat in the middle of the living room. A plump, gray sofa and matching chairs sat up against the living room wall. About fifteen guys, some of them with dates. laughed, talked, and drank. The air was full of smoke from both cigarettes and marijuana.

Someone had popped a disco CD into the stereo, and KC and the Sunshine Band sung about the way they liked it.

"So," Alan asked. "You have any problems finding the place?"

"No. I know CSU really well, for someone who doesn't go here yet."

Alan smiled. "I'm glad you guys came. I promise that these boys won't bite. They're pretty well-behaved, even with a few beers." He introduced the girls to his friends, then lead them to the couch. "Can I get you two something to drink. We've got Coke and Pepsi, and lots of other stuff."

"Coke, please," Sami said.

"Same here," said Jamie.

Alan fished two red cans out of the tub of ice and handed them to the girls. He then plopped down on the couch and chatted with Sami and Jamie, making sure that he laughed at Sami's jokes and nodded his head whenever Jamie said something she thought was interesting.

"I have to get out of here!" he thought, glancing surreptitiously at his watch. The trick now was to make a graceful exit without looking too desperate. Luckily, the house was filling up rapidly with college students looking for a good time. He could slip out of the house unnoticed.

"Girls," he said, "Why don't you check out some of the CD's and pick out what you want to hear. The stereo's in the dining room."

"Okay!" Jamie climbed off the couch and headed over. She noticed that Sami was still on the couch and gestured for her to get up.

"I'll be with you in a second." Sami smiled at her boyfriend. "Alan, thanks for inviting me. I think I'm going to have a great time."

Alan lay his hands on Sami's shoulders. "I'm really glad you're here, too. Tonight's gonna be pretty special." With that, he kissed Sami on the lips.

Sami felt a thrill pass through her. No other guy that she'd gone out with made her feel so passionate with just one kiss. Sami had dated other guys and found them either more interested in her body, or more interested in other girls' bodies. she wanted a boyfriend who was more interested in her, and unfortunately, many of the high school boys she'd gone out with were too superficial for her tastes.

Alan was different. He wasn't just a college student with a nice body and a Harley Davidson. Something on the inside made him stand out. Sami couldn't figure out what it was, but Alan had a presence about him that both attracted and intimidated her. It was a feeling that she craved, from the moment she first experienced it.

Alan pulled away from her. "I think we've got the new Big Head Todd and the Monsters CD somewhere," he said.

"Big Head Todd? Cool! I'd better put that in the CD player before Jamie fills it up with Ace of Base and worse. See 'ya!"

Alan let out a sigh of relief as he watched Sami walk away. Finally, he could get out of the house and head for Estes before his rival did. He stood up, wove his way through the crowd, and grabbed his leather jacket from the hall closet. Then, he made his way outside, got on his bike, and roared off.
"Carrie's only gonna give herself to one man," he thought, as he rode out of town. "And I'm the one."

Alan took a seldom-used route to Estes Park. He drove down a pair of county roads that wound around Horsetooth Reservoir and headed southwest through Masonville and Drake before meeting Highway 34. Then, he took that highway into the bustling tourist town.

Thompson Valley Cabins were a mile west of Estes, off a gravel side road. They were a popular spot for young couples who were on their honeymoon or wanting to spend a romantic weekend. Alan had always wanted to take previous girlfriends here, but unfortunately, the relationships never reached that level.

"Why do women always lie to me?" Alan wondered, for the millionth time, as he parked his bike behind a thick cluster of bushes. "It's always the same thing. They always start out like they care, like I'm a really cool guy--and then they start lying to me! Just like Mom lied to Dad!

"Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that Carrie's no different from the others?"

Alan wandered around the area, looking for Carrie's car. He found it parked next to a small cabin with lace curtains on the windows and a small number 6 on the door. He approached the window, barely able to contain his excitement.

The thick bushes concealed Alan as he gazed through the window. Carrie was walking around, wearing a lacy white dressing gown. Her honey-colored hair fell down her back in graceful waves. The sway of her hips and breasts was obvious and lush. She sat down, picked up an issue of "People," and thumbed through it.

Alan smiled, imagining Carrie in his arms, showing her what a real man was supposed to be like. "I think you are so beautiful," he breathed. "Because, tonight, you belong to me."

With that, he slipped his ski mask over his head and removed a small chisel from his pocket. He then began to pry open the living room window.
